Brian Wilson, the legendary co-founder of The Beach Boys, has passed away at the age of 82.

In a statement shared on his official website, Wilson’s family said: “We are heartbroken to share the news that our beloved father, Brian Wilson, has passed away. We are at a loss for words. Please respect our privacy during this time of mourning, as we grieve together with the world.”

Wilson had reportedly faced declining health in recent years. Court documents filed in 2024 indicated he was living with a “major neurocognitive disorder,” such as dementia.

He formed The Beach Boys in the early 1960s alongside his brothers Dennis and Carl, cousin Mike Love, and friend Al Jardine.

Wilson, the oldest and last surviving of the three Wilson brothers, was the creative force behind The Beach Boys. As the group’s visionary leader and primary songwriter, he crafted timeless classics such as Surfin’ USA, Good Vibrations, and God Only Knows.

“A remarkable legacy”

Tributes have poured in from across the music world. Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood expressed his sorrow, saying his “world is in mourning” after the loss of both Brian Wilson and fellow artist Sly Stone. “So sad,” he added.

Broadcaster Piers Morgan described Wilson as “a complex man but a musical genius and showbusiness icon,” adding, “What a legacy he leaves.”

Radio 2 DJ Tony Robinson shared his condolences on X, writing: “So sorry to hear about the passing of Brian Wilson of The Beach Boys. So many incredible hits — to me, he was the sound of summer. RIP Brian, and thank you for the music.”

Electronic duo Disclosure also paid tribute, calling Wilson their “favourite producer and composer of all time.”
In an emotional Instagram post, they wrote: “He pushed musical boundaries further than anyone before him. We’re lost for words. We love you, Brian. Rest in peace to the greatest.”
